Local, local, local

The International Society of Weekly Newspaper Editors ran an item in its November newsletter which caught our attention.

The item featured a headline which read, "Local, local, local back in vogue." Dave Bruha, owner/editor of the Consort Enterprise in Consort, Alberta, Canada, wrote the article.

In his article, Bruha wrote that the "business of news has come full circle – back to the roots of community."

"Local, local, local is back in vogue," Bruha shared. "People want to be connected to their 'home,' however they define it.

"The idea that people want to be in touch with their own geographic or social community is directly linked to man's constant search to establish an identity – a place where they fit as an individual and can call home."

What's true in Consort, Alberta, is the same here in Union County, Illinois. News about what is going on here at home is our bread and butter, and it's what we hope you want to read.

Certainly, there is a great big world out there, and Union County is, without a doubt, part of a global community. However, even in this era of instant communication, folks still want to know about what is happening in their own neighborhoods and community.

We appreciate the continued support of our readers, and we will continue to strive to work to ensure that what is happening in your lives is our focus.
