Local students part of mentorship program
<p class="p1">Shawnee Community College representatives Brett Whitnel and Rob Lucas participated in a recent Union County CEO mentorship program. </p><p class="p1">The program was presented Jan. 29 at the college's extension center in Anna. </p><p class="p1">Whitnel and Lucas met with local high school students to hear their “first pitches” about future business ideas.</p><p class="p1">Brett Whitnel works in the Shawnee Community College Small Business Development Center as a business counselor. </p><p class="p1">Rob Lucas is an educational technology specialist at the college. </p><p class="p1">With their insights in small business development and technology, Whitnel and Lucas were able to advise the high school students and discuss their business plans.</p><p class="p1">The meeting was the first time students had met with Whitnel and Lucas and discussed the beginning ideas each student or group had for their business. </p><p class="p1">The mentorship program plans to meet every couple months, or as needed, to assist the students in their small business goals. </p>
