Locally made film to be shown Sunday on WSIU-TV

A locally made film is scheduled to have its television premiere Sunday afternoon, Jan. 8, on WSIU-TV Channel 8.

The film, “Under These Same Stars: The Celadon Affair,” is set to air at 1 p.m. Sunday.

The film was directed by Dan Johnson of Alto Pass. Johnson is a sculptor and filmmaker. He was the film’s director, camera man, special effects technician, prop maker and editor.

Robert Streit Jr. of Carbondale was the screenwriter and associate producer. Streit also played Cpl. Oliver, one of the lead roles in the film.

Hilary Chandler of Carbondale served as assistant director and also played a lead role as the Widow Aubuchon.

Other lead roles were filled by Karen Fiorino of Makanda, Brian Smith of Smithton, Herby Voss of Carbondale and Bill Hamer of Marion.

Also performing in the film were other local actors, including Allie Stevens, Mike Lecselius,  Gabe Neely-Streit, Sherri Perry, Georgianna Richey, Lauren Owen, Edward and Daniel Heath, Noah and Layton Guyton, Jay and Josh Johnson, Kevin Bishop, Darcy Kriegsman,  Marti Crothers, Thomas Peters, Tony Gerard and Amber Grosshenrich.

Molly Johnson of Alto Pass was the associate producer, production coordinator and costume director.

The film features music by Dennis Stroughmatt et L’Esprit Creole, the Peacocks and Les Petits Chanteurs, a children’s choir from Ste. Genevieve.

“Under These Same Stars: The Celadon Affair” is a feature length, independent film from Celadon Films LLC, a local film production company.

The film was shot in the historic homes of Ste. Genevieve, Mo., and at rural locations throughout Southern Illinois and Missouri. Local talent was used in all areas of the production.

The film is based on a book titled “Stealing Indian Women,” which was written by historian Dr. Carl Ekberg.

“Under These Same Stars: The Celadon Affair” tells a true story from the Mississippi River valley’s colonial past.

It is a story from 1773, as documented from historic archives in Ste. Genevieve and Seville, Spain.

The film tells the tale of a mixed blood hunter’s need for companionship and a slave woman’s choice between her children and an opportunity for love and freedom.
