Mary Lou Sitter Dick
Mary Lou Sitter Dick of Cobden and formerly of Anna, Itasca, and Chicago, Illinois passed away on Friday, January 10, 2014 in her home with her family. She was 89.
Mary Lou was born in Anna, Illinois on March 9, 1924. She attended grade and middle school in Anna and graduated from Austin High School in Chicago, Illinois, where she was active in sorority activities, cheerleading, and school politics, serving as her class vice president.
She was married to Bernard Dick on January 30, 1943 in Chicago, Illinois and together they had five children.
Mary Lou worked in the administrative offices at Choate Mental Health Center in Anna and retired over twenty years ago.
She was always involved in various community activities. She supported the arts, schools, politics, and sports locally, as well as local causes and businesses, and always enjoyed participating with and helping others within the community. She was an accomplished artist in her own right, and years ago was invited to show her own paintings at acclaimed art shows in Long Grove, IL.
She was known for her high energy, razor sharp wit and sense of humor, a hearty laugh, a bright, welcoming smile, and her signature Jackie O. sunglasses.
Mary Lou was a loving and loyal Mother, Mother-in-Law, Grandmother, Great-Grandmother (GiGi), Daughter, Sister, Wife and Friend, and will be terribly missed by many.
She is survived by her son Larry (Jill) Dick of Barrington, IL, son Bernie Dick of Champaign, daughter Nancy (Robin) Congdon of Fall River, MA, daughter in-law Marilyn Dick of Carbondale, grandchildren Sarah (Ross), Adam, Laura (Aaron), Renee, Jennifer, Jeanine, Brian, Erin, and great-grandchildren Scarlett and Jimmy. She was preceded in death by her parents Ralph Sitter and Lucille Blanchard Lewis, her sister Ruth Leah Sitter, and sons Jim Dick and David Dick.
Her family would like to thank all of her friends and the extended community for their love and support during this difficult time.
