‘Little Shop of Horrors,’ ‘Mad Stone’ planned at Anna Arts Center
The Shawnee Hills Arts Council/Anna Arts Center in Anna has announced its fall season of shows.
Tickets for each performance are $15 or $25 for a season pass.
“Little Shop of Horrors”
“Little Shop of Horrors” is the award winning musical by Alen Menken and Howard Ashman first opened off-Broadway in 1982.
It opened on Broadway in 2003. It is set in a skid-row florist shop. The style of music is early 1960’s rock and roll with a doo wop flavor.
The cast of “Little Shop of Horrors” is set and rehearsals are underway.
The show is scheduled to be performed at 7 p.m. on Sept. 16-17 and at 2 p.m. on Sept. 18.
The cast for “Little Shop of Horrors” follows:
Cody Acklin, who directed “Peter Pan” and “Snow Queen,” is directing the current production.
Elise Wheaton of Anna is playing the lead female role of Audrey.
Joey Johnson is playing the leading male role of Seymour Krelborn. Joey is a veteran actor and director at the Anna Arts Center.
The “girl group” of singers will be brought to life by Morgan Bunch as Chiffon, Becky Potter as Ronette, and doubled as Crystal, Caroline Hansen, and Sarah Gentry.
Audrey II, the plant, will be voiced by Samantha Borsch.
Other roles are Becky Potter as the sadistic dentist Orin Schiavello, Kevin Thomas as Mr. Muchnik who owns the flower shop, and Pete Housman as a downtown hobo, and other voices.
Joshua Bernstein is playing multiple roles.
The street urchins are Jadden Brimm, Sara Gentry, Caroline Hansen, Mya Laster and John Bird.
“Mad Stone” is a play about the extremely valuable mad stone that cured hundreds of cases of snake, spider and rabid animal bites.
The play will feature people in Southern Illinois who were cured of their potentially lethal wounds.
Auditions for the show are scheduled Aug. 9-10 from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the Anna Arts Center.
Rehearsals are set to begin July 6 and the set will be under construction soon. The play is scheduled to be performed Oct. 14-16.
