2017 Peach Fest planned Aug. 4-5

A Union County tradition is right around the corner.

The 2017 Cobden Peach Festival is planned Friday and Saturday, Aug. 4-5.

Most of the Peach Festival events take place at the Cobden Community Park in Cobden.

The Peach Festival is presented by the Cobden Lions Club, with the help and support of other community members.

The festival celebrates the annual harvest of peaches in the Cobden area. The 2017 event will be the 80th edition of the Peach Festival.

Proceeds from the festival are shared by the Cobden Lions Club to support a variety of community activities and programs.

For many people, the Peach Festival is a homecoming.

Highlights of the Peach Festival include a queen pageant, a parade, entertainment, a run/walk event, carnival midway rides, food, bingo and other games,  raffles – and lots of peaches, peaches and cream and other treats.

The festival is scheduled to begin at 5 p.m. each day.

The Peach Festival queen pageant is set to begin Friday night. A new queen will be crowned Saturday night. Karlyn Furry is the reigning Peach Festival queen.

A Peach Festival parade is planned at 4:30 p.m. on Saturday. The parade route is through downtown Cobden.

Entertainment is planned Friday and Saturday night. The Magnatones will perform Friday. Fertile Soil will perform Saturday. Entertainment begins at 6 p.m. on both days.

A 5K run/walk and a 1-mile fun run are planned early Saturday morning. The events are set to begin at 7:30 a.m. They traditionally have started, and ended, near the Cobden Community Park. The events are sponsored by the Cobden Runners/Walkers Club.

More than 50 prizes will be awarded in this year’s Cobden Peach Festival raffle. Raffle tickets are $1 each, six for $5 and 24 for $20.

A drawing for the raffle is planned Saturday night. Grand prizes in the raffle include:

A $500 gift certificate donated by Jack Stokes at Associated Lumber in Anna.

A 2700 PSI power washer, valued at $450, donated by Cobden Auto Repair/Anna Tire & Auto.

A large wooden double porch rocker and side table, valued at $349, donated by Rusty’s Home Center in Anna.
