Annabelle Festival celebration set in Anna

The sixth annual Annabelle Festival is planned Friday and Saturday, June 7-8, in the downtown Anna area.

The festival celebrates the Annabelle hydrangea, which was discovered in Union County.

Festival activities are planned from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Friday and from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Saturday.

This year’s Annabelle Festival is scheduled to feature a classic car show, a children’s area, a painting party, a flower show, an art exhibit, live music, carriage rides, a motorcycle show, vendors and food trucks, along with shopping and dining at businesses in downtown Anna.

Friday Activities

Annabelle Festival activities which are scheduled from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Friday follow:

Car show on West Davie Street.

Painting party at the Anna Arts Center on West Davie Street. All art supplies and an instructor are provided for $15. Those who attend the party are invited to bring their favorite drink and snacks. All ages are welcome. Three paintings will be able to choose from; or those at the party can create their own painting.

Art exhibit, “Life in Southern Illinois,” at the Anna Arts Center. The exhibit will feature any subject found in Southern Illinois and created in the following categories: painting and drawing, photography and fine crafts.

Flower show at the Anna Arts Center. The arts center and Anna-Jo Garden Club will host the competition. Categories include arrangements with hydrangeas, artificial arrangements, wall hanging arrangements, largest bloom and potted plants.

Vendors and crafts on West Davie Street.

Kids activities on Main Street, in the South Main Street parking lot at the First Evangelical Presbyterian Church in Anna. Activities will include a bounce house, the balloon lady, face painting, a photo booth, bubbles and a dunking booth. Admission will be $5.

Music in the parking lot at the Moose Lodge along South Main Street.

Shopping and dining at businesses in downtown Anna.

Saturday Schedule

Festival activities which are scheduled from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday follow:

8 a.m. to 4 p.m., vendors, arts and crafts, including the sale of Annabelle hydrangeas on East Davie Street.

Music, 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., presented by Al and Jean Brown, East Davie Street.

Motorcycle show, Moose Lodge parking lot. Registration starts at 9 a.m.

8 a.m. to 4 p.m., kids activities on Main Street, in the South Main Street parking lot at the First Evangelical Presbyterian Church in Anna. Activities will include a bounce house, the balloon lady, face painting, a photo booth, bubbles, a police dog, and ambulance and fire truck tours. Admission will be $5, which includes two shows: a magic show presented by Chris Egelston at noon and a birds of prey program at 1 p.m.

Smokey Bear poster contest, 1 p.m. to 3 p.m., Anna Arts Center.

Little Miss and Mister Annabelle Pageant, 4 p.m. to 5 p.m., East Davie Street.

The Southern Comfort Band is scheduled to perform from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. on East Davie Street.
