Annual Senior Fair planned in Carbondale
An annual Senior Fair is planned Thursday, July 20, in Carbondale.
The event is scheduled from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. at the Carbondale Civic Center. The civic center is located at 200 S. Illinois Ave.
Senior Fair is being hosted by State Sen. Paul Schimpf, R-Waterloo, State Rep. Terri Bryant, R-Murphysboro, and Carbondale Mayor Mike Henry.
The hosts said that all interested senior citizens in the Carbondale area are invited to attend the event, which will feature information and demonstrations about important quality-of-life issues.
More than 50 area vendors plan to be in attendance to provide services to area seniors.
Local health care organizations will be providing blood pressure testing, oral health education, grip strength tests and a wellness screening that includes a trigger point chair massage.
There will also be blood sugar and cholesterol screenings, with an eight-hour fast recommended.
The Illinois state treasurer’s office plans to have the I-Cash database available for interested residents to look for unclaimed checks or property.
Government agencies are scheduled to be on hand to provide information about prescription and insurance programs, veterans’ benefits, amplified telephones and many other programs.
Free refreshments and door prizes will be provided.
