Appleknockers improve to 16-8 with recent wins

The Cobden High School boys’ basketball team won a pair of games last weekend.

Cobden 49, Odin 46:  Joe Brumleve scored a basket and Chandler West and Noah Franklin had a pair of free throws apiece to close out the scoring and lift Cobden to a double overtime win over Odin at the Pinckneyville Shoot Out Saturday, Jan. 26.

Nance led the way for the Appleknockers with 14 points. Franklin added 11 points, Brumleve 9, Dylan Lewey 7, Landon Britt 6 and West 2.

Cobden 70, Goreville 57: The host Appleknockers took an early lead and held on for the win in Cobden’s Hall of Fame game Friday, Jan. 25.

Franklin had a career high 38 points for Cobden. He was 15 of 21 from the free throw line and added five 3-pointers. He also had 15 rebounds.

Brumleve added 13 points, Lewey 11, Nance 7 and Britt 1.

“We played great on Friday,” Cobden coach Wendell Wheeler said. 

Cobden’s game with Marion’s Christian Agape was cancelled because of inclement weather on Tuesday, Jan. 22.

Cobden, 16-8 , is scheduled to play in its homecoming game Friday against Century.
