National Prevention Week Family Fun Night successful

Family Fun Night and National Prevention Week activities were held during May in Union County.

Teresa Goddard, preventionist at The Fellowship House, shared information about the activities.

Another successful Family Fun Night. This event kicked off National Prevention Week, NPW, which was held from May 12-18 and served as a reminder that we all have the power to prevent substance use and promote positive mental health in Union County.

National Prevention Week provides an opportunity to develop or strengthen the community, school and family bonds that protect young people from substance use.

The NPW theme for this year was “Inspiring Action. Changing Lives.”

Many area community members joined together in creating a healthier tomorrow by attending or supporting Family Fun Night.

This event was kicked off by “Painting the Town” with prevention messages.

The Anna-Jonesboro Community High School Youth Advisory Committee, YAC, spearheaded the activity by coming up with positive prevention messages.

The YAC members painted these messages on windows of downtown Anna businesses.

Family Fun Night was held in Downtown Anna on May 13.

Families enjoyed a rock painting party at Jus10s, a hula hoop contest at Kiki’s CoffeeHouse, a coloring activity and a drawing for a prize at Jordo’s Pizzeria,  a craft project at The Here and Now Shop and a family tree project at The Gathering Place.

On behalf of The Fellowship House Prevention Program, Goddard voiced appreciation to all of the families who attended the second annual Family Fun Night.

Goddard also voiced appreciation to volunteers “who helped in making the event a success. Your support, involvement, dedication and generosity were truly appreciated. Thank you all so very much.” Goddard recognized the following:
