Shawnee School District plans veterans program

District’s new memorial wall to be dedicated

Shawnee School District  No. 84 plans to host a veterans program on Friday, Nov. 8.

The program to honor local veterans will be at 10 a.m. at Shawnee High School in Wolf Lake.

A breakfast for local Shawnee District veterans will be served by the school’s FFA chapter at 9:15 a.m.

The school district’s program to honor veterans is an annual event.

This year, the district also plans to dedicate its new Shawnee Veterans Memorial Wall.

The memorial wall has 1,000 names of veterans, both living and deceased, who have ties to the Shawnee District in some way.

The Veterans of Foreign Wars Carroll P. Foster Post No. 3455 will be present for the dedication ceremony, as well as local veterans who will be honored.

The program begins in the high school gym, and will conclude outside at the wall, weather permitting.

Those who might want to make a donation to go toward adding additional names to the memorial, as well as for the wall’s upkeep, can do so by mailing a check to Shawnee Veterans Memorial Wall at Shawnee High School, 3365 State Route 3 N, Wolf Lake, Ill. 62998.

New veterans wall t-shirts will be pre-sold to raise money. A quilt raffle will take place for the cause as well.
