Solar energy to be topic of event set in Carbondale

“Embracing the Future: Bringing Rooftop and Community Solar to Southern Illinois” is the theme of a program which is planned Thursday, Jan. 17, in Carbondale.

The program is set for 7 p.m. in room 108 at the Carbondale Civic Center. 

The event is sponsored by the Shawnee Group of the Sierra Club and the Carbondale Community Solar Working Group.

Presentations and discussion are scheduled to include three guest speakers who will share the latest details about funding for clean energy to make rooftop and community solar happen in the area. 

Panelists are scheduled to include:

Rebecca Judd, Sierra Club Illinois clean energy advocate, with an overview of funding through the Future Energy Jobs Act.

Scott Allen, environmental outreach representative for the Citizens Utility Board, who will discuss renewable energy, energy efficiency and other options for consumers.

Brent Ritzel, co-chair of the Illinois Solar Energy Association Committee on Rural Electric Co-ops and Municipal Electric Utilities, with considerations about choosing rooftop versus community solar, including costs, rates of return and net metering.
