Reptile, Amphibian Month activities set at Giant City

May is Reptile and Amphibian Month at Giant City State Park near Makanda. During May, the visitors center at the park is hosting a photography exhibit by local photographer and reptile and amphibian enthusiast Jeremy Schumacher. Three programs about reptiles and amphibians are scheduled during May at the visitors center. All of the programs are free and open to the public. On May 14, from 10 a.m. to noon, Jeremy Schumacher plans to lead a hike to look for reptiles and amphibians.

Illinois Department of Natural Resources natural heritage biologist Scott Ballard is scheduled to present a program from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. May 21. Ballard plans to talk about reptiles and amphibians. He will display some live creatures. Master Naturalist Kathleen Gaare-Wiese plans to talk about reptiles and amphibians during a program which is scheduled from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. May 28. She also will display some live creatures.
