Floyd ‘Corky’ Wiley Griffith

Floyd “Corky” Wiley Griffith, 87, of Nashville, Tenn., died on Feb. 19, 2017. 

He was born and raised in Union County, and graduated from Anna-Jonesboro Community High School in 1947. 

One of his early jobs was as a projectionist at the Doll Theater in Jonesboro, where he met his future wife, Glenna Treece. They were married on Christmas Day in 1951.  After enlisting in the U.S. Army, he served in France for one year. 

Mr. Griffith’s education included Coyne Electric School in Chicago. He received his undergraduate degree from Southern Illinois University and his graduate degree from the University of Illinois. 

After graduation, he worked for the U.S. Department of Agriculture. Following his retirement, he worked at the Ellington Agricultural Museum.

He enjoyed family time, the outdoors, camping, hiking, gardening and woodworking. 

He was an avid supporter of the Boy Scouts of America and enjoyed working at Boy Scout summer camps. He was a member of the American Legion Post No. 5 in Nashville.

He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Glenna T. Griffith; a daughter, Lorrie Griffith; sons Larry Griffith and Mark (Lori) Griffith; grandchildren Daniel (Rebekah) Griffith, Ryan Griffith, Josh (Candace) Griffith, Katie (John) Horn and Robyn Griffith; five great-grandchildren; and a brother, Davie (Carol) Griffith. 

Mr. Griffith was preceded in death by a brother, Phil Griffith.

A memorial service was held at Southminster Presbyterian Church in Nashville, Tenn., on Saturday, Feb. 25, at 2 p.m. Memorials can be made to the Boy Scouts of America.
