Please read this...Wandering around...aimless observations...

As you may have noticed, this space occasionally is devoted to a bit of wandering around and aimless observations, and so it will be this week...

...first up, allow me to reflect on a couple of boo boos which showed up in last week's paper...

...for one thing, yours truly somehow managed to move an entire church building in Anna from one street to another...

...in this case, we're talking about the First Baptist Church, which, as most folks, and especially the folks at said church, know is located on Morgan Street. Well, somehow, and for reasons unknown, I moved the church to Market Street. Sadly, I've made the same mistake in the past. Think I would have learned. I've always heard that faith will move a mountain; well, in this case, a typo will move a house of faith. 

...the other gaffe involved a photograph from a ribbon cutting ceremony. Somehow, again for reasons unknown, we used the wrong picture from the ribbon cutting. The picture we used was very nice. It just wasn't the right picture. Oops.

...yours truly has said this before, a number of times, and we'll say it again...I do not like to make mistakes which appear in the paper...especially nowadays. We really do work hard to get things right when we write...fake news is not part of what we do.

...when it comes to both of the boo boos, let's just go with the legendary mea culpa, mea culpa...which is Latin for "dumb mistake."

...moving right along...

...The Other Half is back home. Well, I hope she's back home. She had to make another quick trip to the Bluegrass State. 

...however, she didn't leave a To Do List for me. Seems like I was supposed to feed the cats, and maybe change their litter boxes...hmmmm...maybe that's what I was smelling...

...how 'bout some words of wisdom (not that what you've already read hasn't been wise)...

...your scribe made note of a couple of gems (well, I thought they were gems) at a recent meeting of a local governing body. "Break out the crayons," one participant suggested while the seemingly complicated details of a report were being discussed. Then, there was the observation that yours truly liked even better: "Change is the fatal enemy of the way things are."

...now, for whatever it's worth, I thought you might be just a little bit interested in what your intrepid writer has been reading lately...

...the reading list includes "The American Spirit" by David McCullough..."The Jersey Brothers" by Sally Mott Freeman..."The Orphan's Tale" by Pam Jenoff...and "We Were the Lucky Ones" by Georgia Hunter...

...and "My Cubs: A Love Story," by Scott Simon. Yes you read that correctly. Great book, for any baseball fan. Yes, even Cardinals fans. Really.

...all of the books were discovered at Stinson Memorial Library...the next to the last one on the list was recommended by one of the fine folks on the library staff. Check them out. Get it? Good books. At the library. Check them out. Oh, never mind.

...and I'm looking forward to reading author Michael Crichton's latest novel, "Dragon Teeth." Actually, it's kind of interesting that Mr. Crichton actually has a latest novel, since he is no longer with us, as in he is dead. But, that's another story...

...and, speaking of books, time for another shameless plug...

 ...a summer book sale is planned Friday, Saturday and Sunday, June 9-11, at Stinson Memorial Library in Anna. Check it out. 

The book sale is sponsored by the fine folks in the Friends of Stinson Library. The library is located at 409 S. Main St., unless yours truly moved that building, too.

A Friends appreciation sale is planned from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. Friday. It doesn't cost much to be a Friend, and libraries need lots and lots and lots of friends. 

The sale will be open to the public from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday. A bag sale, also open to the public, is scheduled from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday. The cost will be $5 for a full bag of books.

Summer is a great time to read a book, or two, or three. Of course, autumn, winter and spring are great times to read, too. 

...let's close (finally) this week with a Chuck update: saw Chuck, and at least one little Chuck, a couple of times last week...
