Donald Poole

Donald Poole, 84, of McClure, died Friday, Sept. 22, 2017, at St. Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau.

He was born on Jan. 31, 1933, in Elco, the son of Forrest Ezra and Maudie Louise Jordan Poole.

He married Edna Cates Basler on Dec. 8, 1991, in Cobden.

He is survived by his wife, Edna Poole of McClure; a son, Lyndell (Lisa) Poole of Jackson, Mo.; a daughter, Debi Adams of DeBary, Fla.; six grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; one brother, Garry (Karen) Poole of Anna; Edna’s children, Doug (Kathy) Basler of Wichita, Kan., Donna (Larry) Mahan of Palmyra, Diann (Bill) Boyer of Murphysboro, and Cindy (Steve) Pryor of Grand Tower; her seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren; many other family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and by one brother, Jackie Eugene Poole.

He was a member of the Grace Methodist Church in Cape Girardeau, for many years. He retired after 20 years as a railroad car inspector with the Illinois Central Gulf Railroad.

He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. He was an avid outdoorsman; he loved the woods spending time in the woods hunting goldenseal and ginseng.

Funeral services for Mr. Poole will be at noon Friday, Sept. 29, at Rendleman & Hileman Funeral Home in Cobden, with the Rev. Dewayne Taylor officiating. Interment will be in the Cobden Cemetery. Graveside military rites will be conducted by Carroll P. Foster Post No. 3455 of the VFW in Anna and the Illinois Army National Guard funeral honors team in Marion.

Friends can call after 11 a.m. and until the service hour at noon Friday, Sept. 29, at Rendleman & Hileman Funeral Home in Cobden.
