Dr. Clide DeWayne Cassity
Dr. Clide DeWayne Cassity, 76, of Palmetto, Fla., died Saturday, Nov. 4, 2017.
He was born on Aug. 20, 1941, in Browning, Mo., the son of Cecil and Lois Cassity. He was one of five children. He was a longtime member of the First Baptist Church in Bradenton, Fla.
He married Sandra K. Maxam on Dec. 21, 1986, in Anna, and they were blessed to enjoy 30 years of marriage together. She preceded him in death.
He loved nothing more than spending time with his grandchildren, watching them grow and attending their various activities. He also enjoyed traveling the world and spending time with friends and family.
Dr. Cassity dedicated his life to education and empowering thousands of students. He earned his undergraduate and master’s degree in business education at Truman State University (formerly Northeast Missouri State University) and a doctoral degree in education administration at the University of Missouri, Columbia, Mo. As director of Pinellas Technical Education Centers in Florida, he helped continue the education of thousands of adult students. He was very proud of his work to extend adult education globally.
He dedicated his life to empowering people through education and leadership. He was incredibly loving, patient and kind, selfless and giving. He touched the lives of everyone he came in contact with.
Survivors include two brothers, Carl (Betty) Cassity of Caldwell, Idaho, and Charles (Charlene) Cassity of Rayville, Mo.; two sisters, Carol McFadden of Birmingham, Ala., and Karen (Mike) Nielsen of St. Peters, Mo.; three sons, Steven Cassity of Joplin, Mo., James (Lisa) Maxam of Charlotte, N.C., and Ryan (Olivia) Maxam of Land O’ Lakes, Fla.; one daughter, Clare Cassity of Kirksville, Mo.; one great-aunt, Phyllis June Brooks of Ft. Myers, Fla.; six grandchildren, Alexander and Gretchen Maxam, Ryan Jr. and Brittani Maxam, Kera and Joseph; and one great-grandchild, Draeke.
He was preceded in death by his wife and his parents.
Memorial services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 9, at Crain Funeral Home in Anna-Jonesboro. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until the hour of the service at the funeral home.
