Lela Roberts

Lela Roberts, 82, of Murphysboro, died Friday, Dec. 29, 2017, at her residence.

She was born on Jan. 15, 1935, in Carbondale, the daughter of Claud and Mabel Lipe Stearns.

She married Robert Roberts on Nov. 9, 1953. He preceded her in death on April 9, 2008.

Her family said she was a wonderful homemaker, a fantastic cook and a great seamstress. She loved to quilt and sew.

She was a member of Drury Church.

She is survived by her children, Becki (Steve) Naas of Murphysboro, Alan (Becky) Roberts of Carbondale, Robin Nance of Cobden and Rhonda (Leroy) Brookens of Pana; grandchildren Carolyn Naas, Jessican Coleman (Patrick), Stephen Naas (Emma), Robert Roberts (Amanda), April Roberts, Amber Madison (Axel), Brandy Nance (Kaleb), Kelly (Chris) Flamm, Stephanie (Danny) Todd, Rachel (Rusty) Sullivan, Sarah (Nick) Merano, Aaron Brookens (Alicia), Naomi Brookens, Anna Brookens and Rebekah Brookens; 21 great-grandchildren; 12 brothers and sisters; nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents and by a great-grandson, James Stone.

Funeral services for Lela Roberts were Tuesday, Jan. 2, at noon at Crain Pleasant Grove-Murdale Funeral Home. Interment followed in Pleasant Grove Memorial Park.

Memorials can be made to the American Cancer Society, Southern Illinois Hospice or to Drury Church.

Crain Pleasant Grove-Murdale Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
