Gary E. Maloy
Gary E. Maloy, 83, of Cobden, died on Aug. 26, 2018, at Shawnee Christian Village in Herrin.
He was born on May 20, 1935, in Makanda, the son of Ray and Dorothy Cavaness Maloy.
He married Shirley Viola Sanders in 1981 in Makanda. She preceded him in death on April 1, 2018.
He is survived by his daughter, Cheryl (John) Lehr of Pomona; two sons, Lonnie Bobb of Cape Girardeau and Ronnie Bobb of Cobden; two grandchildren, Joshua Bobb and Brittany Howell; two great-grandchildren, Jeffery Kade Lence and Reece Nicole-Kay Lence; sisters Linda Ingram of Texas, Faye McGowan of Jamesport, N.Y., and Sharon (Bill) Butterfield of Topeka, Kan.; several cousins, including Marsha Yates; other relatives and many friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Shirley Maloy; and one brother, Harold Maloy.
He attended the First Baptist Church in Cobden. He worked as a custodian at the Unity Point School for over 36 years. He enjoyed traveling to Texas, was a number one fan of Elvis and loved to joke around.
The family voiced a special thanks to Karee Sweitzer for caring for his beloved dog, Princess.
Funeral services were at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 4, at the First Baptist Church in Cobden, with Pastor David Stewart officiating. Interment was in Evergreen Cemetery in Makanda.
