Alvira June Pender

Alvira June Pender of Indianapolis, Ind., died on Nov. 20, 2022. She was 86 years old. 

June was born in Oran, Missouri to her parents Clarence and Lilly Holderfield. 

She attended high school in Illinois. June met her husband George and together they shared 62 years of marriage. 

She worked as a machine operator for Jenn Industries and retired after many years of service. 

She was a member of Pentacostal Power of Praise Church and a supporter of Jubilee Full Gospel, House of Victory and Foursquare Gospel Churches. She was a member of the UFW and the Jubilee Women’s Fellowship group. 

She was known for her amazing homemade pancakes, chocolate syrup and mayonnaise cake. Family and friends lovingly referred to her as “Granny Pancakes.”

June was a Bible loving optimist who always tried to look for the good in everyone she met. The memories created will be cherished by those she leaves behind.

She is survived by her children, Tim (Angie) Pender, Mike (Donna) Pender, Vicki (the late Jimmy (2017)) Carr, Mickey (Eddie) Carr and Stan (Sharon) Pender; her 21 grandchildren; her 62 great-grandchildren: her several great-great-grandchildren; her several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, George Wayne Pender; her granddaughter, Jessica Pender; her siblings, Lawrence Holderfield, Otis Holderfield, Richard Holderfield and Maxine Pender.

A visitation for June will be Tuesday, Nov. 29, from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Forest Lawn Funeral Home in Greenwood, Ind. 

The funeral service will be Wednesday, Nov. 30, at noon. Burial will immediately follow at Forest Lawn Memory Gardens at 1 p.m.
