Betty ‘Nanny’ Acuff

Betty “Nanny” Acuff, 89, of Dongola, died Sunday, May 10, 2020, at Memorial Hospital of Carbondale.

She was born on Feb. 9, 1931, in Dongola, the daughter of Glen and Opal Goodman Dillow. 

She married Darrell Acuff on Feb. 9, 1950. He preceded her in death on Feb. 7, 1995. 

She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Dongola.  In her early years she worked for Dr. Whiting in Dongola and then went to work at Florsheim Shoe Company. She also provided child care for over 25 years.

Survivors include her sons, Roger Acuff and Rick Acuff; granddaughter Michelle Acuff; great-grandson Bradley (Natalie) Closson; niece Sharon (Jeff) Aden; three very special great-nieces, Breanna (Landon) Lingle and their children, Peyton, Kinley Grayce, Aden Fayth and Ryker Van, Brandi (Jeremy Smith) Aden, Lauren (Kaleb) Green.

Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; sisters Sarah Lee Mowell and Linda Rudolph; and a brother, Paul Dean Dillow.

Private graveside services will be held at American Legion Cemetery, with the Rev. Carl Dillow officiating.
