Billy D. Schluter

Billy D. Schluter, 86, of Pekin, and formerly of Dongola, died Saturday, Oct. 8, 2022, at Pekin Manor.

He was born on Jan. 1, 1936, in the little country home up the road in Dongola, the son of Clyde L. and Velma Johnson Schluter. 

He married Vida Ann Lentz on June 30, 1957. She preceded him in death on July 16, 2014.

He worked as a customer engineer at IBM for 32 years. He enjoyed listening to music, as well as singing with the band he performed with. He loved to play his guitar, washtub and harmonica. He loved to draw and do wood working. 

Survivors include his daughters, Brenda A. (Jerry) Kidd of Havana, Barbara J. (Steve) Snell of Roanoke, Va., and Tammy J. Juliuson of Kennewick, Wash.; a son, Rodney D. (Renee) Schluter of Valencia, Calif.; 10 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. 

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Vida; four sisters and one brother. 

Funeral services will be held at Crain Funeral Home in Dongola on Monday, Oct. 17, at 10 a.m., with the Rev. Brent Miller officiating. Burial will follow at Christian Chapel Cemetery. 

Visitation will be held at Crain Funeral Home in Dongola on Sunday, Oct. 16, from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m., and again from 9 a.m. until the hour of the service on Monday. 

Memorials can be made to the Alzheimer’s Association. 

Crain Funeral Home in Dongola is in charge of arrangements.
