Charles A. ‘Charlie’ Roberts
Charles A. “Charlie” Roberts, 94, of Anna, died Wednesday, Sept. 14, 2022, at Integrity Healthcare in Anna.
He was born on Nov. 13, 1927, in Marion, the son of U.A. “Red” and Reba Swan Roberts.
He married Greta J. Morgan on Nov. 29, 1950.
Mr. Roberts is survived by his wife, Greta J. Roberts of Anna; four children, Alan (Stacey) Roberts of Anna, Christine Bridges of Anna, Larry (Tracy) Roberts of Greensboro, S.C., and Regina (Steve) Engelhardt of Maryland Heights, Mo.; grandchildren Brad (April) Roberts, James (Mitzi) Roberts, Sara (Rob) Luchenta, Angela (Ryan) Smith, Scott (Heather) Carter, Kelly, Ashley, Bryan, Lindsey Roberts, Alex, Brandon and Joshua Engelhardt; 12 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; many other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a granddaughter, Annette Roach; and a son-in-law, Randy Bridges.
Mr. Roberts was a member of Mt. Moriah Lutheran Church in Anna. He was retired from the Anna State Hospital, where he worked 33 years in business administration.
He was known as the “Voice of the Wildcats” for the A-J Wildcat football team for 20 years.
Charlie and his son Alan painted houses together for many years after his retirement.
He was a member of the Anna Elks and the Anna Masonic Lodge. He and Greta enjoyed ballroom dancing and teaching classes.
Graveside funeral services were at 10:30 a.m. Friday, Sept. 16, at the Anna Cemetery. Interment immediately followed.
