Clifford Dean Cain

Clifford Dean Cain, 90, of Jonesboro, died at 10:30 p.m. Thursday, May 7, 2020, at the Illinois Veterans Home in Anna.  

He was born on July 4, 1929, in Chicago, the son of Pink and Gertrude Hummel Cain.  

He married Clara Peddycoart on Dec. 12, 1946.

Mr. Cain was an avid farmer all his life. He loved his family and was very active in doing the Lord’s work. He was always ministering to those he came in contact with about the love of Jesus Christ. 

He was involved in ministry work through various prisons in Southern Illinois, Mardi Gras, Teen Challenge and other organizations throughout his life.  

He was a member of the Assembly of God Church in Wolf Lake, where he served as a deacon.  

He was a wonderful husband, father and grandfather. He set a Godly example to all those he encountered.   

He was a U.S. Army veteran.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Steven Cain; brothers Collin “Cork,” Don, Ronnie  and Duane Cain; and a sister, Maxine Cox. 

He is survived by his wife of 73 years, Clara Cain of Jonesboro; two daughters, Brenda (David) Schlenker of Anna and Donna Morse of Longwood, Fla.; a son, Phillip Cain of Jonesboro; one sister, Shirley Schweighart of Tuscola; six grandchildren, Jennifer Bratton, Rebecca (Marc) Korb, Sheldon (Jenna) Casper, Sonja Cain, Rachel (Darren) Frazier and Justin Cain; 13 great-grandchildren, Emma and  Ben Bratton, Christopher Mowery, Hannah (Conner) Hughart, Malayna Korb, Journey, Elijah and Zeke Casper, Rhiannon Korando, Cameron Clifton, Anthony, Rylan and Ava Frazier; and two great-great-grandchildren, Miles Jarett and Charli Hughart. 

Graveside services will be held privately for the immediate family. 

Memorials can be made to Teen Challenge and sent to Rendleman & Hileman Funeral Home in Anna.
