Connie Cato Dover

Connie Cato Dover, 79, of Grand Chain, died at 11:40 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 23, 2021, at the Metropolis Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Metropolis.

She was born on Aug. 16, 1941, in Reevesville. She was the valedictorian of her graduating class at Vienna High School.  

Mrs. Dover had worked in administration for several years for the State of Illinois in Springfield. 

She was the half owner of the Spur Inn in Karnak for 15 years. Connie and Bill operated Dover’s Cafe in Karnak for several years.  Connie also ran Delacey’s Restaurant in Grand Chain for several years.  She was a licensed cosmetologist and a CNA for home health care.  

She was a lifetime member of the VFW Post No. 5222 Ladies Auxiliary in Vienna. She loved her family and enjoyed cooking.  Connie and Bill always enjoyed fishing together. 

 She is survived by her husband, Billy Dover Sr., of Grand Chain; a son, Billy Dover Jr. (Samantha) of Grand Chain; a daughter, Deanna Dover of Karnak; a stepdaughter, Debbie Baird of Paducah; grandchildren Hailey Crisman of Grand Chain, Jason Lee of Pensacola, Fla., and Jeffery Lee of Paducah; and great-grandchildren Autumn Lee and Emmett Lee. 

She was preceded in death by her parents, Kenneth and Dorothy Royster Cato.

 Graveside services honoring the life of Mrs. Connie Dover were at 3 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 25, at the Cypress Cemetery in Cypress. The Rev. Kenneth Capps officiated. 

Wilson Funeral Home in Karnak was in charge of arrangements.
