Donovan Lee Davis Sr.

Donovan Lee Davis Sr., 86, of Mounds, died Tuesday, April 18, 2023, at Deaconess Henderson Hospital in Henderson, Ky.

Mr. Davis was born on Dec. 26, 1936, in Mount Carmel, the son of William and Marjorie Brown Sutterfield.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Marjorie Sutterfield; his father, William Sutterfield; his wife, Ruth Miller Davis; a daughter, Amy Adams; and a son Michael Davis.

He is survived by his children, Patricia (Don) Bradshaw of Dupo, Trina Davis of Palm Springs, Calif., and Donnie Davis of Grand Tower; nine grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.

Mr. Davis served in the U.S.Air Force as airman second class as a flight traffic specialist. He worked for the United States Postal Service as an assistant superintendent until his retirement. 

After his retirement he enjoyed going to auctions and estate sales. He also enjoyed playing cards with his friends.

He was especially close to Tabitha Smith and family over the last couple of years.

Memorial services will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, May 5, at Jones Funeral Home in Villa Ridge. Father Uriel Salamanca will officiate. Full military honors will be given by Scott Air Force Base burial team and area veterans. Friends can call after 11 a.m. until the service hour. 

Inurnment will follow in Oakland Cemetery in Carbondale.
