Doris Elaine Bailey

Doris Elaine Bailey, 82, of Anna, and a former resident of the Glendale Community, died Sunday, Oct. 1, 2017, at 2:45 p.m. at the home of her daughter and family near Anna.

She was born on Dec. 4, 1934, in Creal Springs, the daughter of Lewis and Inez Vaughn Whiteside.

She married Buel Lee “Slim” Bailey on May 29, 1954, in Creal Springs. He preceded her in death on May 27, 2014.

She is survived by her daughter, Elaine (her husband, Kerry) Ray of Anna; two grandchildren, Emma Kate Ray and Evan Thomas Ray; two sisters-in-law, Juanita Hardin of Harrisburg and Wanda Bailey of Vienna; as well as many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, Lewis Whiteside and Inez Whiteside Bruns.

She was a 1952 graduate of Marion High School. She was a homemaker and enjoyed cooking, working word puzzles and was a voracious reader. She particularly enjoyed reading Christian literature and was a faithful student of the Bible. She was a member of the Cedar Grove Social Brethren Church near Eddyville and later also joined the First Baptist Church in Anna. She was also a member of Eddyville Chapter No. 1007 Order of the Eastern Star.

A service honoring the life of Doris Bailey will be held Saturday, Oct. 7, at 2 p.m. at Bailey Funeral Home in Vienna. The Rev. Jerry Wells will officiate. Burial will be in the Cedar Grove Cemetery near Eddyville.

Visitation will be Saturday from noon until 2 p.m. at Bailey Funeral Home in Vienna.
