Dr. Sandra Karraker Cassity

Dr. Sandra Karraker Cassity, 63, of Palmetto, Fla., died peacefully on Thursday, Sept. 1, 2016, at her home with her family in Palmetto, Fla. She battled cancer bravely for over four years while enjoying life with her husband, family and grandchildren.

She was born on March 3, 1953, in Anna. She was the third child and the first daughter of Moneda and James Karraker. She is now home with her mom, dad and her Lord and Savior.

She married Clide Cassity on Dec. 21, 1986, in Anna, they enjoyed 30 years of marriage together.

She leaves behind her husband, Clide Cassity of Palmetto; two brothers, James Karraker of Anna and Wesley Karraker of Cobden; two sons and daughters-in-law, James and Lisa Maxam of Charlotte, N.C. and Ryan and Olivia Maxam of Land O Lakes, Fla.

She enjoyed traveling and spending time with her four grandchildren, Alexander and Gretchen Maxam from James, as well as Ryan Jr. and Brittani Maxam from Ryan.

She enjoyed spending time with her friends and family. She loved traveling and taking her grandchildren on vacations.

She dedicated her life to helping others reach their potential in the field of education. She earned her bachelor’s degree in special education at Southeast Missouri State University, a master’s degree in vocational education at Minnesota State University Moorhead and a doctoral degree in education administration at the University of Missouri. As a vocational educator, she worked with students and professionals to ensure that they had the training and education to enter the workforce and be successful through education.

A memorial service will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 1, at Crain Funeral Home in Anna-Jonesboro. Friends can gather from noon until 1 p.m. at the funeral home.
