Earl ‘Fuzz’ Benefield
Earl “Fuzz” Benefield, 91, of Thebes, died Sunday, May 24, 2020, at Integrity Healthcare in Carbondale.
He was born on April 4, 1929, in McClure, the son of Clarence “Monk” and Bertha Phillips Benefield.
He married Laverne “Pooch” Kaufman on Dec. 10, 1955. She preceded him in death May 17, 2018.
Mr. Benefield farmed with his brother Paul and also worked as a carpenter for many years for Bud Pearce. He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather and a great neighbor.
Survivors include two daughters, Connie (David) Newell and Lisa (Guy) Lesch; four granddaughters, Stacy (John) Davis, Kelli Holloway, Ashley (Matthew) Follis and Lindsay Newell; nine great-grandchildren, McKenzie, Bryce, Kylie, Kiersten, Mallory, Blayne, Adalyn, Kinleigh and Lincoln; 1 brother, Bill (Goldie) Benefield; three sisters, Virginia Schearf, Clara (Bob) Tucker and Alice (Dave) Green; numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.
In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by four brothers, Russell, Charles, Lawrence, and Paul, and one sister, Louise Matlock.
Graveside services for Mr. Benefield were held Wednesday, May 27, at Lindsey Cemetery in McClure, with Pastor Zack Strong officiating. Interment followed.
Memorials can be made to Lindsey Cemetery and will be accepted at the funeral home.
Crain Funeral Home in Cape Girardeau was in charge of arrangements.
