Elizabeth Ann Strebin

Elizabeth (Liz) Ann Strebin of Cincinnati, Ohio, and formerly of Cobden, died on Aug. 28, 2023.

She was born on June 8, 1933, in Cobden, the daughter of Albert and Elva Townsend. 

She married James R. Strebin on Aug. 7, 1960, in Cobden. They moved to Pennsylvania for 36 years before returning to Southern Illinois. 

She graduated from Southern Illinois University with a degree in education and a minor in music.  She completed a master’s degree in education at the University of Illinois. 

She was an elementary school teacher and piano teacher for many years, something she had a true passion for. 

She was active in the music ministry (piano, organ, choir) for many years. 

She and Jim were longtime volunteers with the Red Cross Blood Donor Mobile and Hospice of Southern Illinois. 

She was a member of Mt. Moriah Lutheran Church in Anna and was a member of St. Barnabas Episcopal Church in Montgomery, Ohio. 

She was a devoted member of the Eastern Star, and a life member of Beta Sigma Phi Sorority. 

She was preceded in death by her parents and brothers David and William Townsend.  

She is survived by her husband, James; one son, William (Lisa) Strebin; one daughter, Beth (Peter) Clayton; two grandsons, Matthew Clayton and Bradley Clayton; two granddaughters, Kari Strebin and Avery Clayton; and one great-granddaughter, Sofia. 

Visitation will be at St. Barnabas Episcopal Church, 10345 Montgomery Rd., Montgomery, Ohio, Saturday, Sept. 2, from noon to 1 p.m. A memorial service will follow at 1 p.m.

Mueller Funeral Home in Mason, Ohio, is in charge of arrangements.
