Eugene H. Kohler

Eugene H. Kohler, 83, of Anna, and formerly of Jonesboro, died at 10:45 p.m. Monday, Nov. 28, 2016, at the Illinois Veterans Home in Anna.

He was born in Jonesboro on June 21, 1933, the son of Ual Leroy and Flora Jane Schlichting Kohler.

He married Shirley Fowler on June 17, 1955, in Reynoldsville; together they shared 61 years of marriage.

He is survived by his wife, Shirley Kohler of Anna; one son, Steven (Cindy) Kohler of Anna; one daughter, Susan (Steve) Short of Pevely, Mo.; seven grandchildren, Chad (Connie) Kohler, Megan (Ryan) Flamm, Brad (Becca) Kohler, Jessica (James) Lucas, Cassie (Kyle) Erschen, Chrissy (Gary) Hurst and Laura (Bryan) Koehler; seven great-grandchildren, Drew Maurizio, Avery Flamm, Emma Kohler, Jeffrey Campbell, Kinsley Lucas, Jacob Koehler and Taylor Hurst; one brother, Bon (Jean) Kohler of Anna; one sister, Geraldine Smith of Anna; other relatives and many friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and by an infant brother, Harold Kohler.

He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Jonesboro. He served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. He was a farmer and also worked 30 years for Lewis Bakeries as a baker.

He always enjoyed meeting with his friends at McDonald’s for coffee and dearly loved spending time with his grandchildren on the farm.

Funeral services for Mr. Kohler were at 1 p.m. at Rendleman & Hileman Funeral Home in Jonesboro on Thursday, Dec. 1, with the Rev. Michael Turner officiating. Interment was in the Jonesboro Cemetery.

Memorials can be made to the Illinois Veterans Home in Anna or to the First Baptist Church in Jonesboro.
