Evelyn Jeanne Pruehsner

Evelyn Jeanne Pruehsner, 90, of Anna, died at 12:15 a.m. Monday, Oct. 31, 2016, at Union County Hospital Long Term Care Nursing Home in Anna.

She was born on Dec. 8, 1925, in Mill Shoals, the daughter of William and Emma Funkhouser Toombs. Her mother Emma Louise died when she was 4 years old. Her father, William O. Toombs married Mary Weatherford, who helped raise Evelyn and her siblings.

In 1944, she married Leslie C. Pruehsner of Nashville. They were married 70 years. Mr. Prehsner died in April 2015 at the Illinois Veterans Home in Anna.

She was a 1944 graduate of Anderson High School in Anderson, Ind. She attended college for one year. She was a minister’s wife and a mother to her three girls. Through the years there were many moves to different churches. She also worked 36 years at hospitals, 25 years at Mulberry Manor in Anna and 10 years at Target in Florida. She retired at the age of 86. She attended Tamms Methodist Church. Her church family was very special to her. She loved and served the Lord.

She had lived at the Union County Nursing Home in Anna since July 1, 2016. She loved them all as family.

She is survived by her family, three daughters, Carol (Jerry) Bequette of Albers, Pat (Don) White of Fairview Heights, and Menda (Rod) Cash of Jonesboro; seven grandchildren, David (Angie) White of Mascoutah, Tammy (Keith) Johnson of Jonesboro, Kristen (Kevin) Templin of Albers, Rodney Cash Jr. of Murphysboro, Andrea (Ash) Henry of Collinsville, Jenny (Jason) Sadler of Jonesboro and Melissa White of Glen Carbon; a sister, Betty Surber of New Port Richey, Fla.; 15 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews, cousins and many special friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Leslie Pruehsner; her parents, William and Emma Toombs; her stepmother, Mary Weatherford; and a brother, William Toombs Jr.

Funeral services were at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 2, at Crain Funeral Home in Anna-Jonesboro, with the Rev. Brent Gordon, the Rev. Les Sinks and Jimmy Keller officiating. Interment was in the Anna City Cemetery.

Memorials can be made to the Tamms Methodist Church or to the Preacher’s Aid Society & Benefits Fund.
