Georgia Helen Thorn

Georgia Helen Thorn, 94, of Makanda, died at 2:45 p.m. on May 3, 2018, at her home, surrounded by her family.

She was born on June 17, 1923, the daughter of James Aden and Bertha Rachel Cruson Lievers. 

She married James Ira Thorn in St. Charles, Mo.,  on May 29, 1942. 

Mrs. Thorn was licensed with Living Word of Faith Fellowship. She and James were missionaries to Haiti and Mexico, where they helped to build several new churches. She retired in 1982 from the Illinois Department of Mental Health.

She is survived by her three sons, Ronald D. (Carolyn) of Makanda, Gary D. (Blanche) of Marion and Larry D. (Angie) of Anna; eight grandchildren, Pamela Wheaton, Ronald J. and James Thorn of Makanda, Deana Englebright and Kimberly Dimock of Johnston City, Micah Thorn of Carterville, Keely Hamburger of Senaca, S.D., and Kendra Thorn of Jonesboro; 17 great-grandchildren; and many other relatives.

Besides her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by a son, Terry W. Thorn, in 2006; a brother, Harley Lievers; and two sisters, Anna Wicks and Rhoda Suits.

Funeral services were at 1 p.m. Monday, May 7, at Crain Funeral Home in Anna-Jonesboro, with the Revs. Ronald D. Thorn, Jason Englebright and Mark Dimock officiating. Interment was in Ebenezer Hall Cemetery.

Memorials can be made to the Living Word of Faith Fellowship missionary fund and will be accepted at the funeral home.
