Gerald Sims

Gerald Sims, 72, of Ullin, died Tuesday, July 20, 2021, at his residence.

Mr. Sims was born on June 24, 1949, in Elco, a son of Fred and Betty Brimm Sims. 

He married his wife, a true lady, Sandra Reagan Sims, on June 22, 1973. 

He was a proud veteran of the Vietnam War from May 5, 1969, until May, 3, 1970, attaining the rank of sergeant.

Besides his wife, he is survived by two daughters, Gina (Doug) Dirnberger and Buffy (Brad) McLaughlin; several grandbabies, Sydnie and Connor Dirnberger, and Collin and Ellary McLaughlin; two brothers, Kenny Sims, and Bruce “Buck” Sims; a sister, Ladonna McNeely; his mother, Betty (Neal) McCormick; and many nieces and nephews whom he loved. 

He was preceded in death by his sister, Nancy Pearman, and his father.

Funeral services for Mr. Sims were at noon Thursday, July 22, at Cross Road United Methodist Church, with Pastor Pete Vinson officiating. 

Interment followed in St. John’s Cemetery near Dongola, with military honors by the U.S. Air Force and Carroll P. Foster Post No. 3455 of the Veterans of Foreign Wars.

Memorials can be made to Cross Road United Methodist Church.
