Harold F. Cross

Harold F. Cross, 93, of Anna, died at 12:05 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 27, 2017, at Saint Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau.

He was born on April 5, 1924, in Creal Springs, the son of Ira and Carrie Wiley Cross.

He married Lanita Jean Smith on Sept. 3, 1949, in Piggott, Ark. She preceded him in death on April 3, 2016.

Harold is survived by his son, Dana (Danette) Cross of Jonesboro; two grandchildren, Adriel Cross and Elliott Cross; one great-grandchild, Owen Cross; three sisters, Carmen (Harlan) Coffman of Jonesboro, Shirley Casper of Carbondale and Evalee (Tom) Harman of St. Louis; other relatives and many friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Lanita Jean Cross; and one sister, Joyce Muldoon.

Harold served in the U.S. Army during World War II and was awarded three Purple Hearts for wounds he received in action. Harold was a member of Salem Lutheran Church in Jonesboro and Carroll P. Foster Post No. 3455 of the VFW in Anna. Harold worked many years for the City of Anna and later was a truck driver.

Funeral services for Harold F. Cross were at 10:30 a.m. Friday, Dec. 29, at Rendleman & Hileman Funeral Home in Anna, with Bill Littrell officiating. Interment was in the Anna City Cemetery.

Military rites were conducted by Carroll P. Foster Post No. 3455 of the VFW in Anna and the Illinois Army National Guard funeral honors team of Marion.

Memorials can be made to the Illinois Veterans Home activity fund.
