Henry Eugene Parrish Sr.

Henry Eugene Parrish Sr., 100, of Metropolis, and formerly of Grand Chain, died at 10:52 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 17, 2020, at the Ray and Kay Eckstein Hospice Care Center in Paducah, Ky.

Mr. Parrish was born on Aug. 16, 1920, in West Frankfort.

He was a World War II veteran who served in the U.S. Army infantry.

He had worked as the head custodian at Rich Central in Olympia Fields and had also worked as a purchasing agent for Massac Memorial Hospital in Metropolis.   

Mr. Parrish enjoyed spending time with his family, fishing and going to the casino.

He is survived by his daughters, Connie (Mark) Holroyd of Western Springs, Francis (Kelly) Martin of Manteno, Irene (Carl) Cross of Metropolis and Nancy (Bobby) Killius of Olmsted; his son, Henry (Connie) Parrish Jr. of Mayfield, Ky.; 14 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; and 12 great-great-grandchildren.

Mr. Parrish was preceded in death by his wife, Margaret Kennedy Parrish (2007); a son, Ronald Parrish; his parents, Otto and Mina Eason Parrish; a brother, Clifford Parrish; sisters Elizabeth Williamson and Eleanor Romano; aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.

Funeral services honoring the life of Mr. Henry Eugene Parrish Sr. were at 3 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 19, at Wilson Funeral Home in Karnak. Interment followed in St. Catherine Cemetery in Grand Chain.

Full military honors were accorded by the U.S. Army burial detail team and area veterans.
