Henry A. Murphy

Henry A. Murphy, 86, of Belleville, was born on Saturday, June 18, 1932, in Akron, Ohio, and died on Friday, Sept. 22, 2017, at Memorial Hospital in Belleville.

Mr. Murphy worked as an auditor for the U.S. General Accounting Office.

He graduated from Anna-Jonesboro Community High School as a member of the class of 1949. He received a bachelor's degree in accounting from Southern Illinois University Carbondale.

He was a member of Edgemont Bible Church in Fairview Heights. He was a U.S. Army veteran who served in the Korean War.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Ollie C. and Catherine Hick Murphy; and by a brother, Jackson Ray Murphy.

Survivors include his wife, Peggy Lou Treece Murphy of Belleville; children Brian (Mary Ann) Murphy of Pevely, Mo., Brent (Laura) Murphy of Belleville, Amy Lyn (John) Carty of Belleville and Brett (Amanda) Murphy of St. Louis; 14 grandchildren, Matthew, Meaghan, Mollie, Michael, Christopher, Maggie, Jersey, Johnathan, Bailey, Melissa, Morgan, Alex, Thomas and Quinn.

Visitation is planned from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday, today, at Kurrus Funeral Home in Belleville, and from 11:15 a.m. to noon Friday, Sept. 29, at Edgemont Bible Church in Fairview Heights.

The funeral procession will leave Kurrus Funeral Home at 9:15 a.m. Friday, Sept. 29, for a 10 a.m. committal service at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery in St. Louis County, Mo., with military honors.

A memorial service is planned at noon Friday, Sept. 29, at Edgemont Bible Church in Fairview Heights, with the Rev. Doug White officiating.
