J.E. Jones

J.E. Jones, 85, of Dongola, died at 11:10 a.m. Monday, March 15, 2021, at Union County Hospital in Anna.

J.E. Jones was born in Dongola on June 16, 1935, the son of John E. and Mae Adams Jones.  

On June 30, 1961, he and Adra Wilson began their 59 year marriage. 

He graduated from Anna-Jonesboro Community High school in 1954. He was drafted into the U.S. Army directly after graduation.  

He was well-known for his dedicated membership in the Cross Road United Methodist Church. He retired as a bookkeeper from the Columbia Quarry. 

He is survived by his wife, Adra Jones and brother, Jim Jones, both of Dongola.  He is also survived by nieces, nephews and other relatives. 

He was preceded in death by his parents, John E. and Mae (Adams) Jones; an infant brother Jon Jones; a brother, Jack Jones; and a sister Joy Bostian.

Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. Thursday, at Cross Road United Methodist Church in Ullin. 

Funeral services for Mr. Jones will be held at 11 a.m. at the church, with Pastor Pete Vinson officiating. 

Interment, with full military honors by VFW Carroll P. Foster Post No. 3455 and the Illinois honor guard, will follow at Big Creek Cemetery in rural Anna.

Memorials can be made to Cross Road United Methodist Church. Envelopes will be provided at the church.
