Jackie A. ‘Jack’ Johnson
Jackie A. “Jack” Johnson, 78, of Jonesboro, and formerly of Olive Branch, died at 1 a.m. Sunday, May 7, 2017, at Union County Hospital in Anna.
He was born on June 4, 1938, in Miller City, Illinois the son of Marshall Allen and Mabel Irene Dover Johnson.
He married Kay Thebeau on Dec. 31, 1960.
He was retired from Laborers Union No. 773 after working for over 28 years. He was the owner and operator of a Texaco gas station in Edwardsville in the early 1960s.
He was a member of Mt. Moriah Lutheran Church in Anna. He was always a hard worker, enjoyed gardening, fishing and loved his grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Kay Johnson of Jonesboro; a daughter, Kristy (Mike) Mason of Jonesboro; a son, Jeff Johnson of Jonesboro; brothers Ed (June) Johnson of Paducah, Phil Johnson of Cobden and Russell (Judy) Johnson of Jonesboro; a sister, Cheryl Appleberry of Peoria; five grandchildren, Mandy Mason, Trent Mason, Jordan Johnson, Jessica Hurst and Kacey Mason; and two great-grandchildren, Kenli and Kharmadi Hurst.
He was preceded in death by his parents, three sisters and five brothers.
Funeral services were at noon Tuesday, May 9, at Crain Funeral Home in Anna-Jonesboro, with the Rev. Guy Johnson officiating. Interment was in the Anna City Cemetery.
Memorials can be made to the Southern Illinois Hospital Cancer Institute in Carterville.
