James Allen Metzger

James Allen Metzger, 55, of Atlanta, Ga., died Thursday, June 13, 2019, at Emory University Hospital in Atlanta.

Mr. Metzger was born on July 21, 1963, in Anna, the son of Maurice and Charlotte Phillips Metzger.   

He graduated from Medical University of South Carolina with a master of science degree in nursing. 

He worked with Emory Healthcare Systems as the director of enterprise staffing. He was instrumental in implementing the International Nurse Program in 2016. 

He won the Daisy award for nurse leader in late 2018. Other awards he received included the President Appreciation Award of North Central Georgia for 1998-1999, G.O.N.E (Georgia Organization of Nurse Executives Award) in 1998-1999 and 2002-2003 and Keystone Award Club Support Rotary Club of Peachtree City in 2002-2003.

Survivors include his spouse, Jonathan Aresta Metzger; children Nikki and Darren Ellis, Christopher Metzger and Stephanie Metzger; grandchildren Ethan, Emma and Jude Ellis; a brother, Victor Metzger; sisters Peggy Williams and Carolyn Lemaster; several nieces, nephews and extended family members.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Metzger was preceded in death by his sister, Virginia Metzger.

He was an exceptional person who could light up a whole room with his presence. 

Memorial services to celebrate the life of James Allen Metzger were held June 18 at 11 a.m. at Rendleman & Hileman Funeral Home in Anna. Burial was in the Anna Cemetery.

Memorials can be made to a scholarship which is being created in his honor for The International Nurse Program that he created in 2016. Funds will help nurses start a new life in the United States.
