James L. Hubbs

James “Jim” L. Hubbs, 87, of St. Charles, died Saturday, July 17, 2021, at Delnor Community Hospital in Geneva.

He was born on June 20, 1934, in Du Quoin, the son of  Elmer and Ruth (nee Roberts) Hubbs.  

He was united in marriage to Isabell “Polly” Jane Jenkins.

Mr. Hubbs graduated from Anna-Jonesboro Community High School in Anna.

He served in the U.S. Navy from 1952 to 1955, during the Korean War, completing two tours of duty, and finishing his service in the Navy Reserves.  

He worked for Alcoa Corporation with his lifelong childhood friend Lowell Haire for 40-plus years in various management positions.  

Mr. Hubbs was an active member of the American Legion Post No. 342, where he served two terms as post commander and in various other positions. He was also an active member of St. Charles VFW Post No. 5036. 

His greatest honor of his lifetime was the opportunity to participate in the Veteran’s Honor Flight in August of 2016.  

He and his wife enjoyed camping, traveling across the United States with friends and family. 

He is survived by his wife, Polly Hubbs; his four children, John (Linda) Hubbs, Janet Carrano, Dale (Laurie) Hubbs and David (Rebecca) Hubbs;  his eight grandchildren, Jennifer, Jack, Daniel, Tyler, Kayli, Andrew, Dylan and Dawson; and his five great-grandchildren, Lillian, Abigail, Johnny, Henry and Owen.   

He was preceded in death by his parents; his son, Daryl Hubbs; and his brother, Howard Hubbs.

Visitation will be from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday, today, at Moss-Norris Funeral Home, 100 S. Third St., St. Charles.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Friday, July 23, at the funeral home. Interment will be in Union Cemetery in St. Charles.

Memorials can be made to the American Legion Post  No. 342 Scholarship Fund, 311 N. 2nd St., St. Charles, Ill. 60174.
