James Michael 'Mike' Coles
James Michael “Mike” Coles, 74, of Anna, died Saturday, July 27, 2019, at St. Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau.
He was born on May 30, 1945, in Du Quoin, the son of Herbert Eugene “Herb” and Betty Vee Ledbetter Coles.
He married Margaret Joanna Henson on Jan. 3, 1987, in Carbondale. She preceded him in death on July 19, 2017.
He is survived by his five children, Tommy Yates of Perryville, Mo., Gary Morris of Marion, Jamie (Adam) Mach of Goreville, Marissa Coles of Dongola and Michael (Rosa) Coles of Ironton, Mo.; 18 grandchildren, Michael, Tyler, Whitney, Ethan, Addison, Jesse and Autumn Yates, Morgan, Allison, Hannah, Luke and Ashley Morris, Makenna and Kinsley Mach, Karina Coles, Jeff Silvey, Jacob Nunez, Maddox and Maddy Coles; four great-grandchildren, Marah, Kemet, Yonni and Nuru Coles; a sister, Gina (Donnie) Nichols of Anna; other relatives and many friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Margaret Joanna Coles; and one brother, Lyle Coles.
Mr. Coles was a member of the Lick Creek Pentecostal church for many years.
He served in the U.S. Navy from 1965 to 1968 during Vietnam. He was retired from the Vienna Correctional Center after working over 40 years as a correctional officer. He owned and operated J.M Coles Postcards and Souvenirs. After retirement he pursued his love for photography full time.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, today, at Rendleman & Hileman Funeral Home in Anna, with the Rev. John Boyd officiating.
Interment will be in the Anna Cemetery. Graveside military rites will be conducted by Carroll P. Foster Post No. 3455 of the VFW and the Navy funeral honor detail.
