James Mitchell (Jimmy) Greer

James Mitchell (Jimmy) Greer, 73, of Belknap, died at 7:12 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 15, 2020, at his son’s home in Paducah, with his family by his side.

Mr. Greer was born on May 11, 1947, in Belknap. He was a graduate of Vienna High School.  

James and Peggy Manley Greer were united in marriage in 1971.

He served in the U.S. Army as a military police officer in Germany.

Mr. Greer had retired from construction from the Olmsted Lock and Dam.  He had previously worked at the Portland Cement Plant in Joppa and had also been a guard at the Shawnee Correctional Center in Vienna.  

He was an avid hunter, he enjoyed hunting shed horns, and Indian rocks. He loved spending time with his family.  

He is survived by his wife,  Peggy Manley Greer of Belknap; five sons, James (Jamie) and wife, Robin  Greer of Paducah, Jeremy Greer of Golconda, Jared Greer of Belknap, Justin Greer of Belknap and Jerimiah Greer of Belknap; three grandchildren, Wesley James Greer of Kansas City, Kan., Wyatt David Greer of Goreville and Jude Greer of New Jersey;  two brothers, Larry and Roger Greer of Belknap;  and a sister, Mary Ann Evetts of Grantsburg. 

Mr. Greer was preceded in death by his parents, James Wesley and Vera Story Greer.

 Public graveside services honoring the life of Mr. James Mitchell (Jimmy) Greer were held at 1 p.m. Friday, Dec. 18, at the Masonic Cemetery in Belknap.  The Rev. Junior Oliver officiated.  

Full military honors were accorded by the U.S. Army National Guard burial detail team and Beggs-Gurley VFW Post No. 5222 in Vienna.
