Janis Kay Smith

Janis Kay Smith, 69, of Goreville, and formerly of Anna, died at 2:05 a.m. Friday, Dec. 23, 2016, at Memorial Hospital of Carbondale.

She was born on Sept. 3, 1947, in Anna, the daughter of Wilbur R. Emery and Ruth McCann Emery.

She married Billy R. Smith on Jan. 22, 1966, at Camp Ground Church near Anna.

She was a lifelong member of Camp Ground Presbyterian Church in Anna and a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. She enjoyed talking and spending time with her friends and family. She especially loved having her family together for family meals and holidays.

She is survived by her husband, Billy R. Smith of Goreville; daughter Melissa (Rich) Tripp of Goreville; sons Darin (Debbie) Smith of Thomasville, Ga., Donald Smith of Marion, Todd (Amy) Smith of Anna and Brian (Jenny) Smith of Britton, Mich.; grandchildren Logan and Megan Francis, E.J., Abbey and Trent Smith, Zachary and Chelsey Smith, Travis and Wyatt Smith and Sidney, Eli and Colby Smith; great-grandchildren Allie and Luna Francis; she was also “Mama” to Bella, Kailey, Carson and Emme; sisters, Karen (Jim) Vaughn of Anna, Marilyn (Greg) Randol of North Carolina; sisters-in-law Lois Smith of Anna and Mary Alice Reame of Brainerd, Minn.; brother-in-law Wendell Smith of Harvard, Ill.; nieces Kim Emery of Anna and Alicia (Steve) Brown of Iowa; and nephew, Josh (Karle) Smith of Carbondale.

She was preceded in death by her parents; an infant brother, Dennis Ray; sisters-in-law Eula Sheffer and Juanita Smith; and brothers-in-law, Don Sheffer, Kenny Smith and Richard Smith.

Funeral services were at 2 p.m. Monday, Dec. 26, at Crain Funeral Home in Anna-Jonesboro, with the Rev. Greg Randol officiating. Interment was in Camp Ground Cemetery.

Memorials can be made to Camp Ground Cemetery and will be accepted at the funeral home.
