Jerry ‘Waldo’ Kennedy

Jerry “Waldo” Kennedy, 69, of Olmsted, Illinois died Sunday, Sept. 11, 2022, at his residence.

He was born on Nov. 26, 1952, in Cairo, the son of  Loren “Bosco” and Helen Frances Echols Kennedy.

He was a member of Mount Pleasant Baptist Church in Pulaski, where he served as Sunday School superintendent. 

Mr. Kennedy was a retired guard and counselor with the Illinois Department of Corrections. He was a former mail carrier in Thebes. 

He was a member of Caledonia Masonic Lodge No. 47 AF/AM in Olive Branch.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his son, TJ Hannan; and a brother, Ronald “Butch” Kennedy.

Survivors include his sisters and brothers-in-law, Shirley and Clarence Foss of Dongola and Dee and Ted Sullivan of Catlin; eight nieces and nephews; several great-nieces and nephews; other relatives and friends.

Masonic rites were held at noon on Friday, Sept. 16, at Jones Funeral Home in Villa Ridge. Funeral services followed. The Rev. Brian Lingle and the Rev. Terry Kern officiated.

Interment followed in Rose Hill Cemetery in Pulaski.

Memorials can be made to the Baptist Children’s Home in Carmi or to Mount Pleasant Church in Pulaski.
