Jerry Alsip
Jerry Alsip, 72, of Anna, died Monday, Dec. 27, 2021, at 1:18 p.m. at OSF Saint Anthony Medical Center in Alton.
He was born on May 9, 1949, in Southern Illinois, the son of Dallas and Naomi Walker Alsip.
He married Cheryl Isom on Feb. 22, 1979. She survives.
Mr. Alsip was the owner of Alsip Landscaping for three and a half years in Florida. After moving back to Southern Illinois, he continued Alsip Landscaping in the Union County and Carbondale area.
He was part of the Jehovah Witness Marion Congregation. He enjoyed making knives with wooden handles and custom knives.
Survivors include his wife, Cheryl Alsip; daughters Carolynn Alsip (Roger Newfarmer) of Jonesboro, Abi (Kim) Alsip of Anna and Lydia Alsip of Anna; a son, Marshall (Christina) Alsip; two granddaughters, Caley (Brandon) Evans of Metropolis and Ashley (Cody) Martinez of Sikeston; four grandsons, Dustin (Cassey) Wilda of Anna, Hunter Godwin of Anna, Parker Alsip of Anna, and Grayson Anderson of Metropolis; six great-grandchildren; a sister, Paula Hanzel of Anna; and many other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents and by a brother-in-law, Bill Hanzel.
Per the family’s wishes, cremation rites will be accorded. Inurnment will take place at a later date at Casper Cemetery near Anna.
Memorials can be made to Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses in Marion, Illinois.
