Jerry Dean Sams
Jerry Dean Sams, 77, of Olive Branch, died Saturday, Oct. 22, 2022, at the Illinois Veterans Home in Anna.
He was born on March 8, 1945, in Cape Girardeau, the son of Herman and Marion Coleson Sams.
He married Shirley DeWeese on July 13, 1962. She preceded him in death on Sept. 10, 2019.
Mr. Sams served for 20 years in the Navy Reserves. He earned his master’s degree in biomedical electronics. He worked for 14 years at the Illinois Department of Corrections. He was an outdoor enthusiast. He was a member of Caledonia Lodge No. 47 AF&AM.
Survivors include his children, Pamela (David) Pladna of Albany, Ronnie D. (Tanya) Sams of Olive Branch, Robert (Cindy) Sams of Olive Branch and Robin (Tracy) Lutker of Olive Branch; nine grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; a sister, Holly Sams of Olive Branch; and several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Besides his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Randy Dean Sams; a grandson; and two brothers, Phil Sams and Ray Sams.
Visitation was held Friday, Oct. 28, from noon to 2 p.m. at Crain Funeral Home in Tamms. Military honors were accorded following the visitation at 2 p.m. at the funeral home. Inurnment will be held at Olive Branch Cemetery at a later date.
