Jessalyn A. Canupp

Jessalyn A. Canupp, 96 years, a former resident of Buncombe and Cobden, died Sunday, Sept. 16, at 12:20 p.m. at the home of her great-niece, Amye LaVerdi, near Benton, Ky.

She was born on Dec. 18, 1921, in Johnson County, the daughter of Harrison and Grace Penrod Adams.

On March 19, 1948, she married Robert Canupp in Piggott, Ark.  He preceded her in death on May 11, 1995.

Survivors include two sisters-in-law, Reba Adams and Audrey Canupp; two nephews, Larry Parks and J.R. Parks; great-nieces and many friends and former students.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by two sisters, Mae Parks and Glenna Glass, and a brother, Oard Adams.

She earned a bachelor’s degree from Southern Illinois University Carbondale.

She was a lifelong educator and had taught in the Vienna and Cypress school systems for 41 years prior to her retirement.  She served as a substitute teacher for six years. 

She was a member of the Cypress United Methodist Church.  She enjoyed quilting and reading her Bible.

A service honoring her life will be conducted Thursday, today, at 11 a.m. at Bailey Funeral Home in Vienna.  Pastor Jay Franklin will officiate.  Burial will be in the Cypress Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 11 Thursday, today, at Bailey Funeral Home in Vienna.
