Jimmy R. Dallas

Jimmy R. Dallas, 68, of Jonesboro, died Sunday, Dec. 17, 2017, at his home.

He was born on Sept. 21, 1949, in Evansville, Ind., the son of William Elbert and Tressie Waters Dallas.

He married Linda D. Martin on July 10, 1970, in Dongola. She preceded him in death on Oct. 11, 2015.

He is survived by his daughter, Jama (Dana) Eddleman of Dongola; a son, Preston Dallas of Wolf Lake; five grandchildren, Kelsie (Brandon) Ramsey of Cypress, Karlie and Seth Eddleman of Dongola, and Shannon and Nicholas Dallas of Wolf Lake; two great-grandchildren, Jayden and Blake Ramsey of Cypress; sisters Pamala Dallas and (Dr. Michael Skolochenko) and Cindy Dallas of Jonesboro; other family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents and wife, Linda Dallas.

He served in the U.S. Marine Corps during Vietnam. He was retired from the State of Illinois Department of Corrections, where he worked for 30 years in dietary as a food supervisor.

He loved “tinkering” with computers, martial arts, fishing with his son, Preston, and, most of all, spending time with his grandchildren.

Funeral services for Mr. Dallas were at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 20, 2017, at Rendleman & Hileman Funeral Home in Jonesboro, with the Rev. Tim Heineke officiating. Interment was in the Jonesboro Cemetery. Military rites were conducted by Carroll P. Foster Post No. 3455 of the VFW in Anna and the Marine Corps honor guard.

Memorials can be made to the Paralyzed Veterans of America.
