Joan M. Kennedy

Joan M. Kennedy (not the famous one as she would say), 85, of Murphysboro, died at 6:30 a.m. on Friday, Aug. 19, 2016, at Memorial Hospital of Carbondale surrounded by her family.

She was born in Murphysboro on March 14, 1931, a daughter of Robert Lee and Elsie Fulenwider Morgan.

She attended Murdale Baptist Church in Carbondale. She had been a member of the St. Joseph Memorial Hospital Auxiliary. Her family said her smile, laugh and clever sense of humor made her a special person.

She had been a Sunday School teacher, and loved playing her baby grand piano and singing, from a very early age she had sang in duets and trios.

Besides her family, traveling and music were her favorite hobbies. She also enjoyed singing at weddings, funerals, church choir and other events. She also was an accomplished music writer, having composed many of her own songs.

Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 24, at Murdale Baptist Church in Carbondale. Pastor Paul Hicks of the Murdale Baptist Church officiated. Burial was in Pleasant Grove Memorial Park near Murphysboro.
